Many snacks are high in sugar, which means energy crashes and all the health implications of eating too many sweet things. High protein and low-carb snacks are a much better option.
Getting enough protein in your snacks is actually quite easy, as long as you know which ones to go for. It’s also important, as a protein deficient diet can cause havoc with your health.
Pretty much every function of your body needs protein to maintain your overall wellness. As well as helping you maintain or lose weight, protein stabilizes your blood sugar levels and supports your soft tissue health.

Jerky is high in protein and contrary to popular opinion is not loaded with preservatives and chemicals. It also won’t raise your insulin levels (insulin can trigger the body to store fat).
Mixed Nuts or Trail Mix
Typically, most nuts contain around 20% protein - so they are a great way to add essential proteins to your diet. Either a bag of mixed nuts or a homemade trail mix will do the trick if you’re looking for a high protein alternative to crisps or sweets.
These tasty seeds contain zinc - a mineral associated with how the body heals itself after injury. They also contain plenty of protein (around 19%).
Chunky Monkey Shake
These low carb shakes contain banana, cacao powder and peanut butter. Add to that almond or soya milk and you have a very nutritious shake. As you can imagine they also contain a nice dose of protein from the nuts and the milk plus you’ll the energy and potassium from the banana. Edamame Beans Poppers
Edamame beans are actually just young soybeans and are well known for their high protein content and for making an array of foods such as tofu or seitan. Edamame bean poppers are made by coating the beans with bread crumbs and cheese and then baking in the oven. They're very moreish.
