6 Simple Cooking Tips and Tricks

There’s no need to panic when walking into the kitchen, we’ve all been there. Even the best chefs were once mind boggled! We’re always cooking here at Borna Foods and are always exchanging ideas of how we can elevate our home-cooking. Below are our 6 essential tips and tricks to help you take the first steps to becoming a pro in the kitchen:

Read the recipe

Don’t just dive in and start at step one. Take your time and read the recipe through before you begin, this way you can use the recipe to jog your memory instead of your eye being glued to the recipe book and forgetting to put an essential ingredient in the pan.

Prep Prep Prep!

Before cooking, make sure that you have all your ingredients weighed out and ready to go, this way you can concentrate on perfectly cooking your dish rather than burning it while slicing your onion.

Taste as you go!

We have a new range flavoured pistachios and nut butters coming out very soon…YIPEE! While developing the products we came to realise that tasting while roasting/cooking is key. Doing this means you can add more salt, spice or herbs which means you’ll end up with a perfectly flavoured dish.

Herbs and knives aren’t friends

When using fresh herbs in your cooking your best rip them up with your fingers rather than using a knife. Not only is this more fun but it helps release the herbs flavours. The result? A more fragrant delicious dish.

Keep your spices fresh

Treat your spices like they’re a vampire, store them in a cool, dark place. This will keep them fresher for longer and to stop them from losing their flavour.

Sharpen your knives

Sharpening your knives will make your time in the kitchen so much easier. A sharp knife makes you one step closer to being a Jackie Chan chopping expert.

If you do a couple of the above, you’ll be a few steps closer to impressing your friends with your skills. Remember it takes time to get used to the kitchen and you won’t wake up as Gordon Ramsey tomorrow. Most importantly the kitchen is a place to be creative, have fun and get SUPER messy!
