Vegan Taro Biscuits
Taro is a flavour popular in Asia; it's purple sweet potato and it's great! I wanted a way I could get the flavour of taro into an easy to consume food... biscuits seemed like the perfect choice!

Vegan Taro Biscuits


  • 1/4 Cup Vegan Margarine
  • 1/4 Cup Organic Unrefined Coconut Sugar (Brown Sugar will do)
  • 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar. 2 Tbsp Smooth Applesauce
  • 1 1/2 Cups of Organic White Spelt Flour (Plain Flour will do)
  • 1 Tsp Corn Flour. 1/2 Cup Purple Sweet Potato Powder
  • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
  • A Pinch of Salt
  • 1/4 Cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Maple Syrup

How to make

  1. Using a wooden spoon mix the margarine in a large bowl with the coconut sugar, until smooth and creamy.

  2. Add the remaining brown sugar and applesauce, and mix together until well combined.

  3. In a separate bowl mix together the flour, cornstarch, sweet potato powder, salt, baking powder, baking soda using a hand whisk.

  4. Slowly add this to the sugar-margarine mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon.

  5. In a jug, mix together the maple syrup and unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and slowly mix with the flour margarine mixture using a wooden spoon.

  6. On a floured surface knead the mixture until well combined (around 5-7 minutes).

  7. Roll out the dough and cut into whatever shapes you want.

  8. Place in a pre-heated oven of 180C; seeing as I used smaller cutters, my bakes took less time to cook, so adjust cooking time accordingly. I cooked mine for 5 minutes.

  9. Enjoy on their own, or topped on yogurt, or with plant milk! Delicious!


Adjust your mixture accordingly, if it's a bit too dry add more unsweetened vanilla almond milk, if it's too wet add more flour.
