The ultimate, indulgent all-American breakfast. Serve with streaky bacon, maple syrup and fresh blueberries and your Sunday brunch is complete.

Gluten Free French Toast

Ingredients

  • A loaf of Rana's Artisan Bakery Gluten Free Sourdough Sandwich Loaf Box - £14.50 (for gluten eaters, any soft white loaf will do – challah or brioche are popular choices, and corn bread provides a delicious savoury twist)
  • 60 ml double cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • Juice of ½ a lemon
  • ½ tsp of ground cinnamon
  • A good grating of fresh nutmeg
  • Tbsp of butter
  • Your choice of toppings (maple syrup, streaky bacon, fresh fruit)

How to make

  1. Slice the bread into 2.5 cm thick slices and set aside to dry out slightly.
  2. Beat the eggs with the cream, lemon juice, cream and spices and pour into a shallow dish. Heat a griddle pan on a medium heat with the tbsp. of butter.
  3. Soak both sides of the slices of bread in the mixture and then place in the pan with the melted butter. Cook for four minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. Serve with your choice of toppings (fresh fruit or streaky bacon are always received well).
