Inspired by spice, producers of Award winning handmade Spiced Indian shortbreads (Nankhatai) and treats without artificial flavourings or preserves
Originally from Mombasa, Kenya, I was surrounded by a close-knit community where food was prepared and shared on many occasions. This love affair with food started from a very young age watching my mum and grandmother prepare delicious traditional Gujarati and International dishes. This passion was fuelled even further when I would observe my mum creating fabulous cakes, treats and desserts for special occasions, and I recall being completely “wowed” by how simple ingredients turned into wonderful creations.
At the age of 12 we moved to the UK where I discovered an abundance of cook books and television programmes which inspired me to start experimenting with recipes and enabled me to hone new skills and techniques. Over the years I became more confident with blending flavours and spices, these new creations left my guests and family delighted and I found myself the host of many tea and dinner parties. Like many business owners I started my business due to the demand for my bakes from family and friends, this has continued to grow with orders coming from all over the world. I love to share my bakes and hear the delighted when customers have enjoyed them so much.
My name is Chintal Kakaya and my passion for experimenting with flavours and spices to create a unique twist on classic recipes is how Chinskitchen was born. My journey began in 2013 as a food blogger sharing a myriad of baking recipes taking inspiration from various sources. Known for baking cakes for family and friends, I launched my ‘Indian Dessert Inspired Cakes’ in 2015, a concept where a selection of Indian Mithai’s were carefully recreated into delicious cakes. This lead to the launch of our now Award winning Nankhatai and Chinskitchen online shop in February 2016. I have been extremely proud of their success and wonderful reviews and today the range continues to grow. I believe baking is a niche and to create bakes with Indian spices is quintessentially a niche for Chinskitchen. I use a beautiful fusion of traditional and modern techniques to create deliciously light and melt in the mouth fragrant Nankhatai. I hope you love them as much as I enjoy baking each one by hand.
I am also incredibly proud to support ‘Find Your Feet’ a charity that goes above and beyond in helping change the lives of families in India, Nepal, Malawi and Zimbabwe to build a future free from poverty. My role in this charity began by hosting a simple ‘Curry For Change’ curry night for friends and family, after great success I assisted in organising ‘An Evening Of Flavour’, serving 80 guests a selection of wonderful Indian desserts. Now, as a champion of this incredible charity, I dedicate my time, recipes (and desserts) to many fundraising events.
